December 2008-January 2009 Highlights Country Club Ridge Tenants Corp.
Winter has officially arrived and our staff has been doing their utmost to keep the walkways as well as the road clear and safe. The porter staff has again been rotated, as was done last January. The postings of the staff's schedules will be put up in all buildings shortly.
Finance. The committee met on December 15th. They have been working in tandem with Hudson North and have instituted a new spreadsheet that will enable the tracking of monthly expenditures of CCR. The committee's concerns have also concentrated on building up and maintaining a healthy balance in our Reserve Fund.
Verizon FIOS. The installation of the wiring is nearing completion. There are some small repairs they will be remedying shortly. Once this has been done, Hudson North can sign off with Verizon for completion of the work. Several residents have already signed up for this service. Hudson North will be notified from Verizon if they will be hosting any type of promotional presentation for CCR residents. Once this has been determined, all will be notified.
Parking. Due to the current alternate side-of-the-street parking ordinance from December 1st to March 1st and the dangerous hazards it poses, we urge any and all residents to contact the local Greenburgh Police at #682-5300 as well as the Town's Patrol Division Commander, Captain Glenn Bryan via email at gbryan@greenburghny.com to report any incidences. These occurrences can be reported and also documented in order to substantiate the hazardous issue this is to all of us living here on this narrow one way road. Our Town Supervisor, Paul Feiner, can also be contacted via email at pfeiner@greenburghny.com . Point of interest for those of you who haven't lived at CCR that long....Rockledge Road used to be a two-way road (w/o parking) if you can believe it!
Laundry rooms. Platforms for all laundry rooms have been installed to raise the height of the new washing machines for the convenience and ease of use by all residents, at no cost to CCR and courtesy of Service Directions Inc., our laundry room provider.
Touch up painting of all hallways and insteps of the stairs continues and is nearing completion.
All hallway lighting fixtures have been cleaned and checked and, if necessary, been replaced with new ones. If any of these fixtures do not appear to have been attended to, please report such observances to Bob Voss #723-1919.
Boiler #35 incurred a problem on January 5th with sludge in the boiler. The boiler system had to be shut down, then vacuumed and cleaned out. It wasn't until nearly 1am that Bob Voss was able to get the boiler back up and working again. Apologies to all those who incurred the loss of heat and hot water during that time period.
Security. Between November and January, only 2 cars had been booted. There have been no burglaries within CCR even though there have been some recent burglaries along East Hartsdale Avenue.
A handicap railing was installed within the hallway of #63 on the first floor for a handicapped resident. A handicap ramp will be installed near the road's edge by #67 for another handicapped resident.
The other CCR sign existing to the left as you drive up the hill into our Co-op from the village will be taken down in future and repainted as the two main signs had been done previously.
Anyone interested in assisting with the review our current CCR House Rules, please email the Board at Board2008@ccrhartsdale.com. A meeting will be scheduled in the near future once responses have been received and notices will be posted.
A February Board meeting is scheduled.
Although the following items focus on current film releases, this is only an add-on to the highlights, as a test format of what we would like to have as part of a future CCR newsletter. This endeavor would involve contributions from residents dealing with entertainment, sports, restaurant reviews, shared information and special event announcements. Years ago, several neighbors had put together a newsletter of sorts entitled The Ridge Rag, and we're hoping to resurrect something like that idea in the future. Anyone interested in contributing, please email the Board with your ideas. Thank you.

"Slumdog Millionaire"
Any praise you may have heard concerning this film is well deserved. An original story with excellent acting, writing and directing and makes one remember how lucky we are to enjoy the freedom we take for granted in the United States. A major contender for Best Picture of the year!
"Doubt"
Former Bronxite, John Patrick Shanley, writes and directs the film version of his 2005 Broadway play. Good transformation from Broadway to Hollywood. Meryl Streep is the mother superior in a catholic school who is inquisitive of the relationship between a priest and the first African American student attending back in 1964. Another year-end release with top notch performances by all concerned and a scene was actually shot in the Parkchester section of the Bronx.
"Revolutionary Road"
11 years after the success of "Titanic", Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio are reunited in the film version of the Richard Yates 1961 novel. The performances are first rate but unfortunately the film is not. The film chronicles a couple with a disintegrating marriage, facing contemporary problems in the world of 1955. The results are fair at best.
"Defiance"
Good war film where 'the hunted' banded together and actually killed some of the hunters. 3 brothers saved over 1200 people between the years of 1941-1945. Daniel (James Bond) Craig is tops here.
"MILK"
Another riveting performance from Sean Penn as Harvey Milk, the first gay politician elected to office and subsequently killed in 1978.
"Rachel Getting Married"
A film that centers on a dysfunctional family, once again, as the sister of the bride just graduated from rehab. Strong performance by Anne Hathaway ("Get Smart"). The mother is played by Debra Winger ("Officer and a Gentleman").
"The Reader"
Kate Winslet stars as a woman with a hidden past during World War II. She helps a 15 year old boy during which a summer romance ensues. 8 years later, she is on trial for her past activities while her former boyfriend is a law student observing the proceedings. Classy film with great performances but lacks the emotional appeal of "Schindler's List".
"Cadillac Records"
A poor mans version of "Ray" versus "DreamGirls", however still worth a look. Beyonce Knowles proves again that she is more than just a pretty face who can sing with a riveting small part as blues singer Etta James. In addition, Beyonce wrote one of the films original songs.
"The Wrestler"
Very well done small drama with a 'knock out' performance by Mickey Rourke that bears a striking resemblance to his personal life. Strong supporting performance by Marisa Tomei "My Cousin Vinny".
Did you know that the White Plains Library receives DVD releases concurrent with their releases in stores? Rentals can be reserved for 50cents and sometimes there is a wait of a few weeks; however a bit cheaper than spending $5. at Blockbuster!
